2025 Scheduling
In 2025, we will be scheduling Wednesdays between 7 am and noon.
Lara will not groom from July 1 - July 23, August 26 - Oc tober 15. In 2026, Lara will not be grooming from the end of February until mid-April, but she's planning on having an experienced groomer visit while she is away.
It is highly recommended that you schedule in advance and book your next appointment at your current appointment.
If we schedule more than two weeks in advance, we will likely add a grooming day on Monday or Friday.

Lara has been grooming pets for over 20 years. She currently owns a dog grooming and cat grooming salon in Northern Indiana.
Lara & Paul have three dogs of their own: Bernard, Rip and Noriega.
Reliable and Trustworthy Caretakers
Lara is a National Certified Master Groomer and Pet Tech CPR & First Aid Instructor. She also teaches grooming and business classes at grooming coferences. She has taught classes all over the United States.

Grooming Services
Grooming (Haircuts)
Grooming includes a Bath with high quality products made for pets and suited for your dog's needs. The nails will be trimmed and filed, and ears cleaned. A haircut based on breed standard or owner preference is included, as well as cologne and a bandanna or bows if desired. Prices quoted are for regularly groomed dogs, matted dogs will require additional charges.
Small Dog

Grooming for a small size dog. This would include regularly groomed Shih Tzus or Maltese Think of dogs you can easily carry for ten minutes if you needed to.
Medium Dog

Grooming for a medium-size dog, this would include larger Miniature Schnauzers, Cocker Spaniel Mixes, or Miniature Poodle mixes. These would be dogs you could pick up if you had to, but you probably wouldn't want to hold them too long.
Large Dog

Grooming for a large-size dog, this would include larger Poodle mixes, think of dogs that weigh more than 40 pounds and require a haircut.
Double Coat Grooming
Double Coat Grooming includes a Bath with high quality products made for pets and suited for your dog's needs. The nails will be trimmed and filed, and ears cleaned. Double Coated breeds DO NOT NEED TO BE SHAVED or to have their hair cut off. Their hair does not make them hotter. Double Coat Grooming includes the bath, deshedding, trimming and filing the nails, cleaning the ears, and trimming the foot hair as well as tidying up the feathering and furnishings if the owner wishes.
Tiny Dog or Puppy

Double Coat Grooming for a tiny dog or a puppy. This would include dogs such as a Long Hair Chihuahua, Long Hair Daschund or the like. Dogs this size would be easy to carry around for an hour or more, they may weigh what a small purse would weigh.
Small Dog

Double Coat Grooming for a small size dog. This would include dogs such as a Corgi. Think of dogs you can easily carry for ten minutes if you needed to.
Medium Dog

Double Coat Grooming for a medium-size dog, this would include smaller Golden Retriever mixes. These would be dogs you could pick up if you had to, but you probably don't want to. They are about the same size as a carry on bag without wheels.
Large Dog

Double Coat Grooming for a large-size dog, this would include regular sized Golden Retrievers.These would be dogs you might not be able to pick up without help. Dogs larger than 80# would cost more.
Short Hair Dog Grooming
Short hair dog grooming includes a Bath with high quality products made for pets and suited for your dog's needs. Haircuts are not necessary except for perhaps the hair in the pads of the feet The nails will be trimmed and filed, and ears cleaned. . as well as cologne and a bandanna or bows if desired. Prices quoted are for regularly groomed dogs, matted dogs will require additional charges. For Large or XL short hair dog grooming please contact us for an estimate.

Medium size short hair dog grooming would include dogs that are 30# or less, These are dogs you could pick up if you had do, but you'd rather not. Many of the short hair typical Utilian dogs would fall in this catagory.

Mobile Nail Trim & File

Trim and file the dog's nails, filing is done with a special diamond coated rotary bit made for filing dog nails. SPECIAL - each additional dog at the same house only 100 more each.
We would like to schedule a day of mobile nail trims at a time, if we can get 10 or more on the same day we will waive the mobile portion of the charge, making it 200 per nail trim plus 100 for any additional dogs over 1 at the same home.

We usually recommend once a month. This keeps the grooming process normal for your dog, and is great for cutting down on shedding and keeping the nails short!

We take cash, but can also send an invoice in advance of the appointment and a credit card can be used. We also take PayPal or Venmo. If additional charges are incurred at the appointment those would have to be paid upon pick up. We will also consider bartering.
Lara & Paul first visited Utila in 2016 for a week. They came back in 2018/2019 for 3 months. Some of you may remember they did a grooming fundraiser for Jasper's Animal Shelter as it was being built at that time. They visited again in Sept/Oct 2021 and decided to move here in January 2022. Lara is an avid scuba diver but also wishes to continue to care for dogs.
Lara has been a pet groomer for over 25 years. She spent the first ten years of her career working for veterinarians. She is a National Certified Master Groomer and an open level competition groomer in the United States. Lara is President of the GBGV Foundation Board and chair of the health and newsletter committee for the GBGV Club of America (GBGV = Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, a type of French hunting dog.) Lara is a Pet Tech CPR & First Aid Instructor and has taught those as well as other classes all over the United States. Lara follows best practices when it comes to grooming and will always do what is in the best interest of the pet. References are available upon request.
We groom by appointment, and due to our location, it is best that we start scheduling as early as 7:00 am and try to finish the day no later than 1:00 pm. As the day goes on the wind picks up and the sun is more intense. Most appointments are scheduled between 7:00 am and 12:30 pm.
Most appointments are scheduled on weekdays as we have discovered weekend appointments are often missed or forgotten.
Things come up, and we understand that, as well as "island time." That said, we are grooming by appointment so if someone is more than 10 minutes late we may not be able to accommodate and might have to reschedule the appointment. No-shows impact not only us but other customers who need appointments. Customers who no-show will need to pay for the previously missed appointment to get back on our schedule. Habitual no-show customers will need to pay in advance for their appointment to be scheduled and will forfeit the payment if they do not show up for their appointment (it will not be allowed to be rebooked and the payment applied at a later date.)
